What is it and who is it for?
A visitor visa, also known as a temporary resident visa, is an official document placed in your passport. It serves as proof that you meet the necessary requirements to travel to Canada.
Generally, visitors are permitted to stay in Canada for up to six months. However, the border services officer at the port of entry may grant you a shorter or longer period of stay. In such cases, the officer will indicate the departure date in your passport or issue a visitor record document specifying the duration of your stay.
If your passport isn’t stamped upon arrival, you can remain in Canada for six months from the date of entry or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. If you require a stamp, you can request one from a border services officer. At airports with primary inspection kiosks, approach the border officer after completing the kiosk process.

- Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date you plan to arrive in Canada. And don’t forget to include any old passports you might have.
- Prepare pictures with 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm in size, with a 70% front view, a white background, and taken within the last 6 months.
- To show that you have enough funds to support yourself during your stay in Canada, you’ll need to provide financial proof for the last 6 months. This can be a photocopy of a bank statement or savings book, from the front page with your name and account number to the last page of the transaction.
- Please include a detailed itinerary of your trip, including a printout of your hotel reservation.
