Indonesia Tourist Visa – Who is it for and what are the benefits

If you are travelling to Indonesia for tourism purposes or to see friends, family or loved ones and you intend to stay in Indonesia within 60 days, then the Single Entry Tourist Visa is the correct visa for you.

The Directorate General of Immigration in the Republic of Indonesia has created a specific type of visas for short visits to the country, as stated in the Indonesian Law No. 6 of 2011 regarding immigration affairs.

This visa is an incredibly popular visa choice for travellers or anyone that is looking to stay within Indonesia at a cost-effective price, paired with simplicity; no expensive government fees or long processing times.

Additional points of interest why this visa is so popular:

  • Not every nationality may be eligible the Visa on Arrival Scheme, at time of writing, only 97 nationalities may use the Visa on Arrival, therefore, you may not apply for this visa. Another option you can access is to apply for a Single Entry Tourist Visa Indonesia. To find out whether your country is on the Visa on Arrival list, connect to the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in your area or check out this article: Everything You Need to Know About the Visa on Arrival (VoA) 2024.

  • Another additional reason why this visa is so popular is that the government has blocked foreigners from applying for visas onshore using the Visa on Arrival, therefore if you are coming to Indonesia and plan to apply for a KITAS (Temporary Stay Permit) or any other visa type, you must enter using a valid visa.

How does this Tourist visa work?

To ensure a smooth entry into Indonesia, choosing the right type of visa is crucial. First, determine the purpose of your visit and check your eligibility for the e-Visa on the official website. If you qualify for the e-Visa and it suits your needs, proceed to apply online and make the payment. However, suppose your visit involves reasons beyond the scope of the e-Visa, such as a longer stay or activities like attending a conference as a speaker. In that case, you’ll need to apply for a Visitor Visa at the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate in your home country. Gather the required documents and submit your application by yourself or through your trusted Visa Consultant.

If you apply through Lets Move Indonesia, we can act as your sponsor and process the visa on your behalf. When the visa process is complete, you are allowed to enter Indonesia. The visa is valid for 60 days. You may then extend the visa two times, therefore, the maximum validity of the visa combined is 180 days.

Please note that as your sponsor, Lets Move Indonesia will process the visa on your behalf, and there are additional fees. Check out our Visa Extension page for full details.

Final note: As the name suggests, this visa is a one time Entry Visa, therefore if you leave the country the visa will no longer be valid and you will have to apply for another one or enter Indonesia using a different visa type.

Steps to get your Visa

Offshore Visa Application:

  1. Provide all of the requirements (travel documents, etc)
  2. Submit the application to the immigration system
  3. Once your visa is approved by the immigration, you can use it to enter Indonesia
  4. Upon arrival to Indonesia, the foreigner will get 60 day stay permit and it’s extendable 2 times (each extension will get 60 day additional stay permit)

Frequently Asked Questions

How to stay longer than 180 days in Indonesia?

If a holder of a single-entry visa wishes to stay beyond 180 days, they may apply for a status change to another visa type (ITAS), subject to the relevant regulations.

To remain in the country past 180 days, single-entry visa holders must apply for a different visa type (ITAS), complying with all regulations.

Can I work in Indonesia using this visa?

A single-entry visa doesn’t allow you to work in Indonesia. This visa is specifically for short-term tourist and non-commercial stays.

To work in Indonesia, you must obtain a KITAS, or Limited Stay Permit Card, a specific work visa. This visa is for foreign nationals employed by an Indonesian company, provided they have a valid HPK and an IMTA work permit.

If I am visiting Indonesia for business meetings, can I still use this visa?

We would recommend using the One Time Entry Business Visa for trips or the Multiple Entry Business Visa for multiple trips.

Can I get Visa on Arrival to enter Indonesia instead?

If your nationality is on the Visa on Arrival list and you don’t mind extending your visa for another 30 days or leaving the country, then you could. Please note that this would be significantly more expensive and time consuming overall. Immigration may also stop you for questioning if you repeatedly do this and you will not be able to apply for any visa types whilst in the country.

Where can I access visa application form for the electronic visa tourist (e-visa)?

As of 2024, Indonesia has encouraged online visa application. To apply for a visa to Indonesia, you can access the form through the official Molina website at www.evisa.imigrasi.go.id, or simply reach one of our professional consultants to navigate you through a seamless visa process.
