Retirement KITAS Regulation Update Allows 5 Years Stay for Expatriates

In a significant development set to reshape retirement options for expatriates in Indonesia, the Retirement KITAS has undergone a transformative update. As of 22nd of August, 2023, expatriates seeking to enjoy their golden years in the captivating country can now look forward to an extended stay of up to 5 years under the revised regulations.

This announcement brings a wave of anticipation and curiosity, as the Indonesian government introduces a series of updated prerequisites designed to streamline the process and offer expatriates a chance to stay in Indonesia for an even more prolonged period. This article delves into the details of this regulatory update, shedding light on the changes that promise to make Indonesia an even more enticing destination for retirees from around the world.

The Updated Regulations for a 5-year Retirement KITAS

Article 61

According to Article 61 of the recent regulation release, to be qualified for the Retirement visa, an applicant must be aged 60 or above. Moreover, a monthly pension fund of at least USD 3,000 is a mandatory prerequisite. This financial criterion is put in place to guarantee that retirees possess a consistent source of income to sustain their lifestyle while residing in Indonesia.

Article 62

A significant change introduced is the eligibility to use the KITAS to stay in Indonesia for up to 5 years and the exclusion of the sponsor from applying for a Retirement KITAS. This alteration offers retirees the convenience of planning their Indonesian stay more efficiently. However, specific conditions need to be met:

  • Applicants must furnish a statement committing to save funds in a personal account at a state-owned bank. The minimum amount required is US$50,000 or its equivalent.
  • The commitment to save funds must be fulfilled within 90 days from the date the Limited Stay Permit is granted. This ensures that retirees have the necessary financial resources accessible to support their tenure.
  • As stipulated in Article 61, retirees are still required to provide evidence of a pension fund with a minimum monthly sum of USD 3,000. This reinforces the retirees’ financial stability.

Passport Validity Update

Aligned with the new Regulation Permenhumkam number 22 of 2023, it is essential to note that the passport’s validity must be a minimum of 6 months for all KITAS (Limited Stay Visa) applications. This regulation aims to ensure that applicants possess a valid passport that encompasses their intended duration of stay in Indonesia.

Other required documents to apply for a Retirement KITAS

Aside from having to be above 60 years old, there are more requirements to be fulfilled while applying for a Retirement visa in Indonesia:
