Indonesia Visa Updates: Expanding Visa Categories Eligible for Visa Extension Online

In a significant stride towards enhancing the comfort and convenience of foreign nationals visiting Indonesia, the Directorate General of Immigration announces a groundbreaking update in the visa application and extension process. Effective December 31, 2023, foreigners can now enjoy a more streamlined and comfortable stay in Indonesia through the introduction of an online extension feature for processing residence permits.

Director-General of Immigration, Silmy Karim, expressed the significance of this digitalization strategy, stating, “Immigration continues to enhance its services through digitalization strategies. This new service was created to facilitate and expedite extending a residence permit, which previously required a visit to the immigration office. Now, it can be done online, and there is no longer a need for identification on the passport because it is sent directly to the applicant’s email.”

Visa Extension Online

Foreigners visiting Indonesia can now revel in a hassle-free online experience for the extension of their residence permits. This new initiative aims to simplify the process, eliminating the need for physical visits to the immigration office, and thereby enhancing overall convenience.

The online extension feature, a result of meticulous testing and development, was officially implemented on December 31, 2023. This marks a pivotal moment in Indonesia’s commitment to providing cutting-edge services for its international visitors.

Who is Eligible to access Visa Extension Online?

The service is specifically designed for foreigners holding visit visas while staying in Indonesia. This includes various visa categories such as Holiday, Family, Transit Single-Entry Visitor Visa (index C1), Medical Treatment Single-Entry Visitor Visa (index C3), Foreign Government Official Trips Single-Entry Visitor Visa (index C4), Short Courses and Training Single-Entry Visitor Visa (index C9), and International Exhibition Single-Entry Visitor Visa (index C11).

The extension of residence permits can now be seamlessly carried out through the official website evisa.imigrasi.go.id. This user-friendly platform is tailored to ensure a smooth and efficient application process, aligning with the nation’s commitment to digitalization.

Elimination of Passport Identification

One of the most noteworthy aspects of this online extension is the elimination of the need for identification on the passport. The approved permit is now conveniently sent directly to the applicant’s email, reducing paperwork and expediting the overall process.

Karim emphasized the ongoing commitment to digitalization, highlighting that the Immigration Department continuously studies, observes, and evaluates developments in community needs to provide the best service. This move is expected to significantly enhance the overall living experience for foreigners in Indonesia, offering a seamless and efficient process for both visa applications and residence permit extensions.

More of Indonesia Visa Updates 2024: 5 Year Multiple Entry Visa

In addition to the online extension service, the Directorate General of Immigration recently introduced new 5-year multiple-entry visas, namely the D1 and D2 visas. These visas are an upgrade from the previous B211a visas and cater to both tourism and business purposes.

The D1 visa is designed for travellers engaged in social and tourism activities, while the D2 visa is tailored for individuals participating in business activities such as conferences and events. These visas can be conveniently applied for online through the visa.imigration.go.id website.

The D1 and D2 visas, priced at IDR 15,000,000 (approximately USD 970), allow for unlimited entries and remain valid for five years, offering a cost-effective and flexible option for frequent visitors to Indonesia.
