Spouse KITAP (Spouse Permanent Stay Permit) – Who is it for and what are the benefits

If you are married to an Indonesian citizen, have registered your marriage and have an active Spouse KITAS (Spouse Temporary Stay Permit), then maybe it is time you upgraded your visa to a Spouse KITAP.

The difference between a KITAP and a KITAS is longevity, the KITAS has a 1-year validity, whilst the KITAP has a validity of 5 years making it a much more attractive visa type than the KITAS. Once again, it is important to note that you cannot simply apply directly for a KITAP, you must have a Spouse KITAS with the same sponsor, with no gaps, for a minimum of 2 years.

The main benefit of upgrading is obviously the visa validity. Rather than having to go through the process annually, the Spouse KITAP lasts 5 years. Once the 5 years is up, you can reapply again.

Steps to get your Spouse KITAP

  1. Submit Spouse KITAP application at the local immigration office
  2. Attend a biometric and finger print session
  3. Await process approval from Immigration Office, Directorate General of Immigration, and Regional Office of Ministry of Law and Human Rights
  4. KITAP completion with the E-KITAP along with Multiple entry re-entry permit
