How to Extend Your Indonesia Visas

How to Extend Your Indonesia Visas

As with any country, it is important to consider your visa before entering and Indonesia is no different. There are various types of visas in Indonesia that can grant you a permit according to the purpose of the visit. Some can also be extended according to the regulations of the Indonesian immigration office, making it easier for holders to stay in the country longer.

Foreigners need to know which visa they will use to enter Indonesia and which visas can be extended. In this article, LetsMoveIndonesia will explain what you should know when extending your Indonesian visa.

Types of visas for foreigners

Indonesia offers a broad range of visa choices you can choose to stay with, the validity and right choice are entirely dependent on your purpose. Here are the highlights of Indonesian visas you can choose from when travelling to Indonesia.

Visa Exemption

Before the pandemic, Indonesia offered a free visa for 169 nationalities. This visa allowed the holders to enter Indonesia and stay for no longer than 30 days and was not eligible for an extension. (Please note, that at the time of writing December 2022, this option is not available except for the following nationalities: Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam).

The Paid 30-day Visa on Arrival

Another choice for your unplanned travel. There are 86 nationalities that can obtain this Indonesian VOA right upon your arrival. Visa on Arrival is extendable for one time. However, just like the Free Entry Visa, this type of visa is not eligible for every country. Learn more about Visa on Arrival here.

Multiple entry business visas

Since the 23rd of November 2022, one of the most flexible visa options for a business user has been relaunched. The Multiple Entry Business Visa (MEBV) is a visa that has a 1 – 5 year validity and allows the foreigner to enter and exit the country as frequently as they desire. The maximum duration allowed to spend in the country at one time however is 60 days. Once the visa is expired, a new one can be made. Learn more about the new Multiple Entry Business Visa here.

Single entry business visa

The Single Entry Business Visa is another choice to stay within Indonesia for 60 days and is extendable for up to 2 times, each extension allowing a further 60 days. In total, with extensions, the maximum validity in Indonesia is 180 days. This visa requires you to obtain a local sponsor from a business entity in Indonesia.

Single Entry Tourist Visa

This visa is the same as the Single Entry Business Visa but has a focus on tourism purposes. The foreigner can stay in Indonesia for an initial period of 60 days and is extendable for up to 2 times, each extension allowing a further 60 days. In total, with extensions, the maximum validity in Indonesia is 180 days. Learn more about Single Entry Tourist Visa here.

KITAS and KITAP

Stay longer in Indonesia for 1 year for KITAS and 5 years for KITAP. Both KITAS and KITAP are extendable and would require you to provide a sponsor according to the purposes.

Extending 30-day Visa on Arrival

If you would prefer to enter Indonesia without a prepaid visa, then you can enter using the Visa on Arrival as long as you are within the 86 nationalities permitted. Find them here!

The paid Visa on Arrival cost $35 and must be paid when entering Indonesia. If you would like to extend it by a further 30 days, you may apply for an extension. We recommend you start considering this 14 days before your visa expires.

You may do the extension yourself by going to your local immigration office, but please note, this will involve 3 separate trips to immigration and countless hours of queuing, navigating and going forwards and backwards.

Extending through an agency

When you choose to extend your visa through LetsMoveIndonesia, you have made an advantageous decision that will save you a whole lot of time and hassle. You only need to go to immigration one time to go through the biometric examinations, while we will take care of the rest.

Our field officers can pick up your passport and drop it off for you or you can drop it by one of our offices.

Extending an Indonesian Single Entry Business Visa

A Single Entry Business Visa provides an initial 60 days of stay, which is extendable monthly for up to 2 times. However, this visa will require you to provide a sponsorship letter for either the first application or the extension process.

While it has different purposes and validity, extending a Single Entry Business Visa will likely take you through a similar process and requirements as with other visas. You will need to extend your visa after 30 days, with an additional requirement of a visa sponsorship letter. Note that 30 days does not equal a month.

If you do not have a sponsor to apply for a Single Entry business visa, make sure to choose a reliable visa agent who can sponsor you for your visa needs. LetsMoveIndonesia has been trusted by thousands of foreigners visiting Indonesia to provide professional sponsorship for all kinds of visa applications. Say goodbye to the hassle and save more by applying for your visa through LetsMoveIndonesia.

Extending a KITAS or KITAP

With the aid of a local sponsor, you can stay in Indonesia for a year for KITAS and maximum validity of 5 years for KITAP. A request letter from a sponsor is essentially required at the time of application, whether they be an Indonesian acquaintance or an agency like LetsMoveIndonesia. What’s better is, you can also obtain sponsorship from LetsMoveIndonesia if you decide to extend your visa through us.
