Immigration authorities announce changes to Single Entry Extensions

Immigration authorities announce changes to Single Entry Extensions

On 9th May Indonesian Immigration authorities released information via their social media channels that there would be changes to single entry visa extensions effective immediately.

As reported by LetsMoveIndonesia on 30th April via our social media channels, Indonesian Authorities put a pop up on their website advising that they would be removing the opportunity to extend Single Entry Visas issued after 16th April. Single Entry Visas issued prior to this date could only be extended once.

At the time of reporting on 30th April, authorities posted the pop up and closed for the holidays, leaving many questioning what was actually happening, as there was no way of contacting authorities.

On 9th May, Immigration authorities released the information below via their social media channels, only to remove it within a few hours, once again leaving many confused as to what is happening.

Immigration offices on 9th May have been chaotic, not just with the backlogs of extensions because of the holidays, but because of the updates have not been shared comprehensively. There is mass confusion and frustration for many foreigners who are presently unclear whether they can extend their visas again or whether they will need to renew/leave the country.

The information on the official Indonesia Immigration social media post can be seen below:

1: Single Entry Visitor Visa (Index B211A, B211B, B211C) issued before 16th April can only be granted a one-time extension of The Stay Permit with a maximum of 60 (sixty) days. The applicant must apply at The Immigration office and pay a Stay Permit fee of IDR 2,000,000.

2: Single Entry Visitor Visa (Index B211A, B211B, B211C) issued from 16th April (valid for a stay of 60 or 180 days) cannot be granted a Stay Permit extension.

3: Visa of Arrival can only be granted a one-time extension of the Stay Permit with a maximum of 30 (thirty) days. The applicant must apply at the immigration office and pay a Stay Permit fee of IDR 500,000.

Issues, concerns and unanswered questions:

Prior to this announcement, there was no option to choose a 60 or 180-day visa as it wasn’t implemented into the website. Therefore, this news will be very unfair and disappointing to many who have not got the visa they intended. It would appear authorities will not be lenient on this and have changed the rules without consideration of those who have already applied.

For those that have already had their visas issued and are already on their second or third extension, no information has been released just yet as to whether they will be able to extend again. We will update this thread once we know.

Will Indonesian authorities refund people who have visas that are not what they paid for? It is extremely unlikely they will honour anything they have previously issued in favour of this new amendment.

Do I need to bring my sponsor to extend my visa? Usually, you would need to bring your sponsor; however, no clear information has bee provided on this matter as of yet.
